Today I'm absolutely thrilled and honoured to be hosting a tour stop for one of my favourite contemporary authors-the one and only Beth Revis! I first discovered Revis back in 2013. I'd heard a lot of great things about her Across the Universe series, and when I read the trilogy I wasn't disappointed. The final instalment, Shades of Earth, was my favourite read of 2014. So you can imagine how excited I was when I heard she was releasing another sci-fi novel, The Body Electric!

I tend to read a lot more books than I own, as I borrow from friends or the library or sell what I don't think I'll read again. I also read a lot of stand-alone novels rather than series, and once I'm done I often move on to something completely different, so I don't have a huge collection of books from the same author.

A is for Authors

Today kickstarts the A-Z Blogging Challenge! The aim is to write a post for every day of the month except for Sundays, with each post representing a different letter of the alphabet. This year I'm doing an A-Z of Great Britain, covering as much as I can about British music, literature, TV and film, food, wildlife and culture.

For the letter 'A' I have chosen to write about Authors.

There are many wonderful British authors, such as J.R.R Tolkien, Roald Dahl, Charles Dickens, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the poet Philip Larkin, to name a few. 

I was originally going to do a top ten list, but the post was going to end up way too long so I decided to do a top five. So here are my top five favourite British authors:

For the next 5 days, I'll be putting the spotlight on some of my favourite female authors.
These are the 'Renaissance Women' that not only write amazing books, but who are also legendary in their own right: making statements, fighting for causes and dazzling us with their wide range of talents.

There's a few things that they all have in common: they all take the time to engage with their fans on social media-taking part in scavenger hunts, author interviews, Twitter chats and hosting plenty of giveaways. They're down-to-earth and friendly, offering advice and support to other writers and promoting other authors' books as well as their own. They stand out because they allow us get to know them as well as their books and they set a great example for young writers to aspire to.

First up is Jessica Khoury, author of Origin and Vitro.

My Life in Books

Today I read a really great post by Philip Dodd over at The Domesticated Bohemian.  He described how his early love of reading was sparked by pouring over a children's encyclopedia and grew from discovering the library. He argues against their closure and I agree that if a library encourages even one child to enjoy reading then it's worth keeping open, it's just a shame that many people do not take advantage of the wealth of information and entertainment on their doorstep.

Philip asked his readers to tell him about their reading lives including what books were important and why. This was such an interesting idea that I decided to write a whole blog post about it rather than just comment. So here goes.
