These are the 'Renaissance Women' that not only write amazing books, but who are also legendary in their own right: making statements, fighting for causes and dazzling us with their wide range of talents.
There's a few things that they all have in common: they all take the time to engage with their fans on social media-taking part in scavenger hunts, author interviews, Twitter chats and hosting plenty of giveaways. They're down-to-earth and friendly, offering advice and support to other writers and promoting other authors' books as well as their own. They stand out because they allow us get to know them as well as their books and they set a great example for young writers to aspire to.
First up is Jessica Khoury, author of Origin and Vitro.
About Jess: "Jessica Khoury is of Syrian and Scottish descent and was born in Toccoa, Georgia. She wrote her first book at age 4, a fan fic sequel to Syd Hoff's Danny and the Dinosaur, which she scribbled on notebook paper, stapled together, and placed on the bookshelf of her preschool classroom. Since that day, she's dreamed of being an author. Besides writing, Jess enjoys playing, coaching, and watching soccer and is an avid FC Barcelona fan. She also spends time directing theatre for college and student groups."
Why she's crush-worthy:
- Jessica's blog is a mine of information and advice for writers, with so many really helpful articles. A few that I have found particularly interesting are: Using Pinterest to Boost Blog Traffic, Blue-bottle Fly: 3 Keys to Writing Knock-out Descriptions and Female Archetypes we Haven't Talked About: Dark vs. Pale Beauties.
- She has quite a talent for graphic design, and created her own stunning website and blog layouts. She's also a pretty amazing artist.
- She came up with PinFic: simply find an image that inspires you, write a fictional short to attach to it and share it on Pinterest.
- She's a fan of Harry Potter, Star Wars, LOTR, Game of Thrones, The Hunger Games, Dr.Who and other classic sci-fi and fantasy series. She's also into Cosplay.
Find her on: Her website, blog, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest.
