F is for Fuchsia #AtoZChallenge

Today I'm continuing with the A-Z Blogging Challenge. This year I'm doing an A-Z of Colours. I'll be doing a variety of posts, including haikus and poems, arts and crafts, fashion and beauty, recipes and more!

For the letter 'F' I have chosen the colour Fuchsia. Fuchsia is a bright, vibrant, reddish pink named after the flower of the fuchsia plant. Its name was changed to Magenta in 1859 to celebrate a victory of the French army at the Battle of Magenta. These Pinterest boards are a great place to start for fuchsia inspiration.

Keep reading to discover the symbolism behind this colour and learn about the fuchsia beauty trend.

Symbolism

Fuchsia symbolises joy, confidence, energy and excitement, as well as romance, lust and passion. In Hinduism, pink is linked with the heart chakra, which concerns higher consciousness and love and bridges the gap between the physical and spiritual worlds. It is also associated with celebrations, festivity and the exotic.

Complementary colour: green

Plants and flowers: fuchsia, roses, anthurium, orchid, peonies, dahlias, poppies

Animals: Some species of tropical fish, pink dragonflies, dragon millipedes

Foods: pink dragon fruit, rhubarb, radish.

Fuchsia Beauty

Fuchsia is a popular colour for spring and summer makeup because it's so vibrant. It makes a bold statement, but is more wearable than red and suits most skin tones, especially paler ones.
As fuchsia has an equal mix of pink and blue tones, it brightens up pale skin without looking too harsh. It's perfect when you want to add a pop of colour to boost your confidence, without looking over-the-top.

M.A.C do several fuchsia toned lipsticks that are really striking. The palest and most wearable is 'Pink Pigeon', but if you're looking for a richer and more vibrant shade, try 'Flat Out Fabulous' or 'Full on Fuchsia'. A more purple-toned lipstick, such as 'Show Orchid' or 'Girl About Town' will suit darker skintones.

Rimmel Lipstick
Rimmel offer a more affordable alternative to M.A.C. Their Moisture Renew Lipstick is an ultra lightweight formula enriched with vitamins, and comes in 20 shades, including the classy 'Oxford Street Fuchsia', for a more understated take on the trend. For a more glossy feel, try their Provocalips 16hr KissProof Lip Colour  in 'Little Minx' or for a bolder look try  Lasting Finish Colour Rush Balm in 'Rumour Has it'.

Nail Polish
Opi offer a wide range of luxe fuchsia nail polishes-my favourites are 'Flashbulb Fuchsia' and 'Pink Flamenco'. Rimmel nail polishes are a cheaper option and are very easy to apply-the best fuchsia shades I've seen are Rimmel 60 Seconds Super Shine in 'Funtime Fuchsia' and Salon Pro Nail Colour with Lycra in 'Simply Sizzling'.

What do you think of the fuchsia makeup trend?

  1. I could do fuchsia nails for sure. I am not sure about the lipstick though. I haven't worn more than tinted gloss for the last ten years, so I am afraid of colour! haha.

Fuchsia symbolizes embarrassment ... in me, usually burning from cheeks. :-)

I'm not a pink person - although I do own a dark fuchsia dress. I like it in makeup though, because I have dark hair and it just fits.

  5. I don't wear pink very often either but the makeup also suits my skin tone.

  7. I'm the same. I'm envious of those people that can pull off really bright shades of lipstick. They look a little ridiculous on me! I'll stick to a tinted balm.

  8. My favorite oooh-la-la dress was fuchsia. Wish I had kept it. It used to be I stay away from shades of pink only because the Mama dressed me in it as a kid. Now, I know it suits me.

I know I said this about duck egg blue, but I do love fuchsia as well!! Any bright colours, and I'm hooked! I'm definitely going to try out a few of those lipsticks. I also didn't know that it went with green - I learn something new every day on your blog ;)!
