As you must already know, today is that special day made for lovers to spoil each other- Valentine's Day! When I was single I used to hate the cheesy holiday and all it's tack, but now I'm loved up I just embrace the commercialism in all it's glory. Anyway, I thought I'd join in the fun today by taking part in Stephanie Haefner's 'Show me the Love' blogfest. All I have to do is answer some questions about my love life, so here goes!
1) What is the most romantic thing that anyone has ever done for you?
The moment that sticks out most in my mind was when I was at university and M and I were living more than two hours apart. It was near Valentine's day and I was very down because I was missing him so much and I knew I wouldn't be able to see him for a few weeks because we both had so much work on. Anyway, that night as I was eating dinner in my room alone I heard a funny, jaunty knock on the door and I instantly thought: 'that's his knock!' but then I thought 'No, that's impossible, it can't be him. Get that idea out of your head because when you answer the door it will be someone else and you'll be dissapointed'. But when I went to the door, miracle of miracles, it was M, complete with his desktop computer and half his office furniture! As I couldn't come to him, he had decided to bring himself and his whole office to me. He stayed for a whole week cramped up in my tiny uni dorm, working while I went to lectures and we had a really nice Valentine's day together.
2) What is your favourite love song?
Wow, this is a tricky one! There are so many brilliant love songs to choose from. I like the obvious ones like 'Everything I do' by Bryan Adams. I'm also a fan of big power ballads so I love 'I'd lie for you and that's the truth' by Meatloaf. When I'm not in a serious mood I like feel good, uplifting tunes like 'My love is your love' (The Erol Brown version is my favourite). M and I both like Take That's 'Rule the World' because we shared a special moment with it playing in the background at the end of the movie Stardust. In conclusion, I can't really narrow it down to one song!
3) Do you have a favourite romantic movie or book?
Dirty Dancing is a favourite...romantic and sexy, what's not to love? When I'm feeling twee I like cheesy musicals like The Sound of Music. There's just something about a man that appears stern and unfeeling on the outside, but has a heart on the inside that only she can unlock. As far as books go, The Time Traveller's Wife is probably one of my favourite romantic novels. I'm not really a fan of rom-coms or classic romances.
4) Do you have any romantic plans for Valentine's day this year?
M and I don't have much planned for today, but the main thing is we get a day off together : ). His gift to me was a huge canvas print of a photograph we took on holiday together last year of our names written on a sandy beach. It's going up in our spare room which has a bit of a beach theme going on.
We've been for a nice romantic walk and later we are going to watch a rom-com and then cook each other dinner (I'm doing the spag bol and he's doing bread and butter pudding) complete with candles and relaxing music hopefully.
5) What's your favourite romantic treat?
Anything sweet is a winner...chocolate, strawberries, honey...yum, yum, yum.
I did have eighteen Valentine's day cupcakes that I made specially for the occasion but someone *cough, cough* seems to have eaten all but one already!
Dirty dancing is my ALLTIME favorite movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo cool that he came to you like that!! I love surprises!!
Thanks so much for participating!
Do you get a day off for free, or did you use a holiday-day for it?
ReplyDeletehow adorable :)
ReplyDeleteI think being comfortable with someone is the best kind of romance.
........dhole
Stephanie- thanks for hosting the blogfest, it was great fun!
ReplyDeleteJane-I got a week of holiday from work so I picked that week specially so we would get the day off together.
Donna-I totally agree. The early stages of a relationship with all the showy gestures are fun at the time, but when you get to the stage where you're so relaxed and comfortable with each other nothing beats it.
I love Dirty Dancing! And Everything I Do is such a great song.
