So it's the end of the third day of Nano, and surprisingly I am still on track despite being very busy. I got back from work at 5:30 pm, did some jobs and replied to emails until about 7:30 when my partner came home and we talked about his day and got dinner. I didn't start writing until 8pm, and I wrote 2395 words in a couple of hours. I'm calling it a night now though, as I don't want to burn myself out too early. My total word count is now at 7403, so I'm about one and a half days ahead of target now, which I will probably need to take advantage of over the weekend. It's going really well so far, and I have to say, I'm suprised.
Yesturday I was becoming to think I was writing utter drivel, but today my writing seems to be better again. I had a bit of a breakthrough, realising that at the beginning of the novel my protagonist is suffering from amnesia caused by the trauma of what she has been through. This would explain her subsequent behaviour perfectly, and allow me to write about a scenario that has been playing in my mind for a long time: that if you woke up in hospital with no memory of who you were and what had happened to you, and later find out you were accused of murder, how could you convince someone that you weren't a murderer, and how would it feel to know that for all you knew, you could be? So I had fun today playing with those possibilities, placing the scene into the midst of chapter one. I also did some of chapter four-mostly Isla looking forward to being on a TV show and wondering what the other contestants would be like. And I wrote a summary for a scene in chapter one where she is arrested and questioned. Tomorrow I plan on writing the introductions to my other main characters. Luckily I have a day off tomorrow, and I'm so happy about that because it will be a chance to really get ahead and boost up my word count. But for now, job done, I'm going to chill out!
