Today's topic: Would you rather be locked in a room with Voldemort or Bellatrix?
As we know, both Voldemort and Bellatrix are pretty formidable foes. Both are pure evil with no qualms about killing anyone unfortunate enough to get in their way. I don't fancy my odds of fighting either of them. However, I think I'd rather be trapped in a room with Voldemort.
My reasoning is that Voldemort, while obviously dangerous, is not normally as unpredictable or unstable as Bellatrix. While Bellatrix delights in inflicting pain on others (such as when she tortures Hermione in The Deathly Hallows), Voldemort is usually more strategic. For him, killing is a means to an end and always part of his larger plan. I'm betting that if I could convince him I was valuable in some way, like I had inside knowledge that he didn't, he would probably keep me alive for a while, perhaps long enough to escape. If not, at least it would all be over for me quickly. Bellatrix, on the other hand, enjoys maiming and killing just for the sake of it. I think she is much crueller and more twisted overall, so she would probably spend hours torturing me.
One of Voldemort's weaknesses seems to be his curiosity and fascination with Harry. He has plenty of opportunities to kill him throughout the series, but often Harry manages to foil his plans because Voldemort is too busy talking about the similarities between them or wondering how Harry defeated him as a baby. He talks and gloats way too much rather than just getting on with the attacking business. So I figure that I could probably keep him talking and distract him for much longer than I could with Bellatrix.
What do you think? Who would you prefer to be locked in a room with?
